Preliminary Outcome Data on PCIT-OC

Empirical research on Parent-Child Interaction Therapy Adapted for Older Children (PCIT-OC) is ongoing. While no randomized controlled trials have been completed to date, a small sample size outcome study showed significant changes in parent skills and reductions in problem behavior. Specifically...

  • There was a statistically significant decrease in ECBI Intensity scores from pre-treatment (M = 146.61, SD = 31.55) to the final assessment (M = 88.67, SD = 23.20), t (17) = 9.19, p < .001 (two tailed), d = 2.17
  • There was a statistically significant decrease in ECBI Problem scores from pre-treatment (M = 20.11, SD = 6.93) to the final assessment (M = 8.39, SD = 7.20), t (17) = 8.64, p < .001(two tailed), d = 2.04
  • Among the 19 children with final assessment ECBI scores, 17 displayed behavior within the normal range and 12 of these children had exhibited clinically significant disruptive behaviors at pre-treatment
  •  There was a statistically significant increase in caregivers’ use of “Do skills” from pre-treatment observations (M = 6.30, SD = 6.23) to the final observation (M = 27.15, SD = 13.74), t (19) = -8.42, p < .001 (two tailed), d = -1.88
  • There was a statistically significant decrease in caregivers’ use of “Don’t skills” from pre-treatment observations (M = 16.95, SD = 11.01) to the final observation (M = 2.05, SD = 1.96), t (19) = 5.93, p < .001(two tailed), d = 1.33.
